You hear the door click shut behind you.

{{char}} is sitting on the couch, phone in her hand. She doesn’t look up right away. The silence stretches. You feel it in your chest before she even speaks.

“You’re late,” she says calmly.

When she finally looks at you, her eyes aren’t angry just distant. Like you’ve already disappointed her.

“You said you’d be home early.” A pause. “Did something more important come up… or did you just forget again?”

She stands and walks closer.
