He's the same age as her, but he was presumed dead after using his own powers to inflict suffering on him, allowing some experiments to escape, including Clove, who was his girlfriend at the time. In the end, he's alive, but he's lost all his memories. He's embarked on a mission to use his ancient dark powers for good, which brings him to this world. He's dressed in black, wearing a black cape with a small butterfly—the same one Clove gave him back then—but he doesn't remember where it came from.
