The Walking Dead
The world fell not because of war or a meteorite, but because of a silent, universal infection. Everyone who dies—from old age, disease, a bullet—returns as a walker. No bite is needed. A bite only guarantees death by fever and transformation. The infection is already in everyone. This is the ultimate existential horror: death no longer frees, but betrays, turning you into a threat to your loved ones. There is no hope of a vaccine. There is only survival.
Walkers:
· They don't run. They are slow, clumsy, but relentless, like the tide. Their strength lies in numbers and silence.
They are attracted by sound. A scream, a gunshot, a knock—this is a siren for them.
· They are killed only by brain damage. A bullet to the head, a blow with something sharp and heavy.
The main danger: they erase the past. A herd can turn a refuge (a farm, a prison) into a cemetery in an hour. They are a constant reminder that all progress is fragile.
Eugene Potter
Status: Group member, engineer.
Family: None
Eugene, at first glance, can be described as a man ill-suited to the apocalypse. His most prominent feature is his thick, curly brown hair, which he's grown to his shoulders and which often looks unkempt, matted into tangled strands. His frame is slight and stooped, and he doesn't give the impression of strength or agility. Eugene dresses practically but without style: usually a plaid shirt or a worn jacket tucked into high socks that he pulls almost to his knees, and rough pants. This sock habit is one of his humorous and sad calling cards, a symbol of his attempts to systematize and secure the world around him in ways he can, far from brutal. Over time, through his trials, his clothes become more functional and casual, but that awkward, botanical aura remains with him.
Initially, Eugene appears as a cowardly, panicked liar and survivalist. He is a brilliant malingerer whose main strength lies not in brawn but in his intellect and ability to manipulate. He concocts a story about being a scientist who knows the cause of the epidemic and is capable of finding a cure, only to have powerful people (primarily soldier Abraham Ford) protect him. His character in the first half of the story is a tangled web of fears, selfishness, and astonishing ingenuity in the field of self-preservation. He speaks in a convoluted manner, using complex scientific and pseudoscientific terminology, which serves as another shield, creating distance between him and harsh reality.
However, beneath this shell lies a brilliant, analytical mind. Eugene is a true engineer and techie. When his lies are revealed (and this is one of the most powerful moments of his arc), his true transformation begins. Guilt, the need to atone for his misdeeds, and, most importantly, finding his true place in the world force him to change. From a cowardly liar, he slowly, with great difficulty, but steadily transforms into one of the most
Judith Grimes
Status: Group member, Rick's daughter
Family: Rick Grimes is his father (not biological), Carl Grimes is his older brother, Michonne Grimes is his mother (not biological), Shane Walsh is his deceased biological father (though this is uncertain), and Lori Grimes is his deceased mother. Rick considers her his daughter, despite some doubts about whether she is his biological daughter (only Rick and Michonne know).
Appearance:
The girl has long dark hair (similar to Karl's) pulled back into a braid. Her appearance reflects growing up in harsh conditions: childish features combined with a serious and attentive gaze. She wears practical clothing, comfortable for movement and combat, often hoodies, jackets, and sturdy pants.
Character:
Embodiment of Ideals: Judith is the living embodiment of the principles of peace and justice that her parents, Rick and Michonne, fought for. She's not just a survivor—she strives to protect the weak and act according to her conscience, as evidenced by her first adult appearance. Skilled and Courageous: Judith is a skilled fighter. She masterfully wields a katana, trained by her mother, Michonne, and a pistol. She engages walkers without hesitation and even participates in military exercises. She loves her family dearly and sometimes plays with her older brother.
Glenn Rhee
Status: Group Member
Family: Maggie Greene (Ree), unborn child
Appearance:
A young man of athletic build and Korean descent (Asian), his appearance combines casualness and practicality. He wears simple clothes, comfortable for quick movement and work: T-shirts, hoodies, and jeans. Over time, his gaze and posture develop a confidence acquired in the harsh conditions of the apocalypse, yet he retains a youthful and open appearance.
Character:
Resourcefulness and cleverness: His work as a pizza delivery boy has given him an intimate knowledge of urban layouts and an ability to navigate quickly, making him an invaluable "scavenger." Courage and loyalty: Glenn has repeatedly risked his life to save others, beginning with their first encounter, when he rescued Rick from a zombie-laden tank in Atlanta. His loyalty to the group, and especially to his wife, Maggie, is absolute. Moral complexity: Despite his kindness, Glenn is capable of making tough decisions to protect his loved ones. However, even when committing necessary murders, he experiences deep remorse, underscoring his moral purity. Optimism and love of life: Unlike many, Glenn retains a "youthful enthusiasm" and faith in the future, finding happiness in his relationship with Maggie and dreaming of the future. Character and personality
At the core of Glenn's personality was his humanity and deep compassion, which he managed to carry through all the horrors of the new world. He became the voice of conscience and hope within the group, often showing mercy where others saw only threats.
Maggie Rhee
Status: member of the group, she is also pregnant
Family: Khurshed Green (deceased father), Bette Green (younger deceased sister), Glenn Rhee (husband and boyfriend), unborn child.
Appearance:
Maggie is a young, athletic woman with a strong, determined gaze that reflects all her experiences. She almost always wears her long, dark brown hair in a loose ponytail or bun to keep it out of the way during combat or work.
Character:
Maggie is portrayed as a bold, outspoken, and somewhat impulsive girl, raised in the relative safety of her family's farm. She quickly matures when confronted with the reality of the apocalypse, demonstrating natural resourcefulness, courage, and compassion.
Daryl Dixon
Status: Group member, hunter
Family: Elder brother Merle Dixon, deceased
Appearance:
A rugged, powerfully built man of average height, his appearance emphasizes his ruggedness and years of survival experience. Distinguishing features: His body is covered in scars, many of which were acquired during childhood. Daryl has dark, often tousled hair and a distinctive stubble. Clothing and equipment: A recognizable detail of his appearance is a leather vest with angel wings embroidered on the back. His signature weapon is a crossbow, which he wields to perfection.
Character:
Daryl appears to be a sullen, hot-tempered, and gruff redneck who lives in the shadow of his older brother, Merle. He keeps to himself and trusts only his hunting and tracking skills. Transformation and Growth: After Merle's disappearance and under the influence of Rick Grimes' group, Daryl gradually changes. His major transformation is the discovery of deep loyalty and empathy. He becomes Rick's right-hand man and a trusted protector for the weak. Loyalty: For Daryl, the group is his new family. He will do anything for those he loves, especially displaying paternal feelings for Judith Grimes. Hidden Vulnerability: Behind his tough exterior lies a damaged man who experienced a difficult childhood with an abusive, alcoholic father and loneliness. He has difficulty opening up to others, but is capable of deep emotional attachment. Honor and Responsibility: Unlike his brother, Merle, Daryl chooses the side of honor. He becomes a moral compass, guided by an internal code rather than personal gain.
Michonne Grimes
Status: Group Member
Family: Rick Grimes (boyfriend and husband), Carl Grimes (son, not biological), Judith Grimes (daughter, not biological), deceased son Andre.
Appearance:
An African-American woman with an athletic and muscular build that speaks of years of physical struggle. Her most recognizable feature is her thick, dreadlocked hair. Her face is often serious and focused, and her gaze betrays strength and a deep weariness from her experiences. She always carries her famous katana—her primary weapon, which she wields expertly. Her clothing is practical and functional for survival: usually a jacket, pants, and sturdy boots.
Character:
Michonne is a lone warrior by nature, silent, unsociable, and extremely distrustful of people, giving her a stern and withdrawn appearance. Behind this cold exterior lies a devoted, reliable, and courageous person, willing to sacrifice herself for those she considers family. Having experienced a terrible tragedy—the loss of her young son, Andre—she carries the pain and guilt for years, which has made her a fierce fighter for years. However, after joining Rick Grimes' group, she gradually thaws: she finds the strength to care for others again (especially her children, Carl and Judith), opens up to love, and ultimately becomes not only a loyal comrade but also Rick's wife. Her inner core is incredibly strong: she is guided by keen instincts, unwavering determination, and her own strict moral code, which ultimately makes her one of the key leaders and protectors of her community.
Carl Grimes
Status: Group member, Rick's son.
Family: Rick Grimes (father), Judith Grimes (younger sister), Lori Grimes (deceased mother), Michonne Grimes (friend/mother substitute)
Appearance:
A tall young man, muscular yet slender. His main accent is a leather cowboy hat (a Sheriff's cap with a missing star) and practical, mature clothing. He has long, dark, silky hair and faintly visible freckles on his face and hands. He has blue eyes like Rick's, but his right eye is bandaged, revealing an empty socket beneath. He mostly wears a T-shirt, a button-down shirt, and worn trousers or jeans.
Character:
An idealist and moral compass. Unlike the bitter Rick, Carl deeply believes in compassion, peace, and the future. He saves strangers, risking himself. Protector and leader: He embraces adult responsibility, protecting his younger sister, Judith, and helping the group. A traumatized but strong soul: Despite the horrors he's experienced and the "dark thoughts" he's had, he's managed to maintain his humanity. His most important trait is his moral fortitude and willingness to sacrifice himself for his ideals. What sets Carl apart from others is that, having experienced cruelty, he hasn't become embittered, but has become a voice of hope and conscience for those around him. Outwardly cold and stern in front of others, he opens up to others, and Carl knows how to care for others and survive. His morality is slightly different, as he almost always shows compassion for others, even the dead.
Rick Grimes
Status: Group leader, leader of a community called Alexandria
Family: Carl Grimes is the eldest son, Judith Grimes is the youngest daughter, Lori Grimes is the ex-wife and Michonne Grimes is the current wife.
Appearance:
He is of medium height and muscular build. He has short dark hair, piercing blue eyes, a thick beard, and a distinctive scar on the right side of his forehead. He usually wears a worn jacket and jeans with a sidearm holster on his hip.
Character:
A natural leader. Doesn't seek power, but accepts responsibility for the group, and others trust him for it. Morally complex: Can fluctuate between a law-abiding officer and a pragmatic survivor, willing to take harsh actions for the "greater good." Mentally resilient: Has the fortitude to adapt, make difficult decisions, and endure personal losses. Loyal to family and the group. His primary motivation is to protect his loved ones. This is both his strength and vulnerability. Tends to take blame. Often blames himself for failures and the deaths of people, which adds to his humanity, but puts moral pressure on him.
