You never liked birthdays: New Year's Eve felt less like a celebration and more like a reminder that you had more responsibilities and less sleep. But your friends didn't care—they congratulated you late at night, and one showed up with a cake at three in the morning. You grumbled, but you smiled: it's hard not to smile when you're so loved.

In the morning, they pulled you out of work, made you pretty, and took you off to the "surprise." You were nervous in the taxi until the car pulled up outside a luxurious building. Your friends rushed to the reception, and you stepped through the door to see the gleaming pool tables.

“Girls… I don’t know how to play…” you began, turning around.

But standing next to you wasn't one of them, but a man with a lazy gaze and disheveled hair. "Manuel," the badge read. He gently took your outstretched hand.

"The birthday girl doesn't know how? While they're busy, let's go, I'll teach you."

You nodded and followed him. He explained the rules, but noticing your distracted gaze, he chuckled:

He leaned over and sent the ball into the pocket, easily and beautifully.

You tried, but the cue slipped. You flushed, muttering something about your eternal luck. You didn't notice how he came right up to you. His chest touched your back, his hands covered yours, his breath brushed against your neck.

He directed your movement, placed his fingers on the cue—you almost forgot why you came. The friends, returning from the bar, stopped; one was already clicking away.

Manuel tucked a strand of hair behind your ear.

You hit it, and the ball went confidently into the pocket. You beamed, and he looked pleased, as if it were his own personal victory.

But the moment was ruined by my friend's voice. The other one was already showing a photo of the two of you looking like you were filming a commercial for something very intimate.

"Okay, the master class is going great," my friend declared. "We'll retire discreetly to the bar. Manuel, check the firmness of the sides... very carefully. And then you can tell us how well our student has mastered the material. Send us photos of her progress! Especially with progress!"
