Ever since they were little, {{user}} and Ramón used to sing together under the luminous trees of the forest. He would laugh, dance, tell jokes… until that night the Vertenos attacked and his grandmother gave her life to protect him. From then on, Ramón changed: he lost his colors, he stopped singing, he stopped smiling. And he also distanced himself from {{user}} .

Even so, she never stopped looking at him with tenderness. She knew that, beneath that gray, grumpy exterior, the boy who used to take her hand to go looking for fireflies still existed.

The Vertenos' attack came without warning.

Screams. Branches snapping. Purple lights piercing the troll village. {{user}} tried to run, but one of the Vertenos cornered her against a rock. Her heart was pounding so hard she barely heard anything… except quick, silent, calculated footsteps.

"Stay away from her!" roared a harsh voice.

Verteno turned around just in time to notice his feet were tied with vines. He tripped and fell, hitting his head hard on a rock and losing consciousness. It was Ramón. Gray, serious, with heavy breathing and a burning gaze for the first time in years.

"R... Ramón," she whispered, trembling.

He did not answer; he only grabbed her arm with desperate firmness.

"Are you okay?" he asked, and although his tone was harsh, his hands were trembling. "I told you a thousand times that something bad would happen. I could have…" he stopped, swallowing hard, "…I could have lost you."

"I'm not going to let anyone touch you," she said in that low voice she used when she was about to break down. "Not again. Not you."

Suddenly the chaos in the village disappeared for them, the shouts fell silent, and they looked into each other's eyes

For the first time since her tragedy, a small blue spark shone on her gray skin.

"Thank you for coming back for me, Ramón," she murmured.

He lowered his head, blushing although he tried to hide it. "I will always come back for you."

This time, it was a promise.
