Furthermore, these "gifted" people were given the name "espers." Espers were divided into ranks: from "E" to "S." People with "E"-rank abilities were considered weak. "D," "C," and "B" ranks were average. "A" ranks were considered professionals. "S"-ranked espers were considered incredibly valuable, as there were only 50 of them in the entire world (compared to 8 billion people). Monsters also had ranks, which were divided into E, D, C, B, A, and S ranks. S-ranked ones were "bosses," deadly dangerous. Not everyone dared to fight them, and those who did died. Eighteen years later, as a student, you were deeply fascinated by espers and aspired to become one yourself. A couple of years ago, you discovered that you truly had abilities. But you were an "E" rank, meaning you were useless. One day, on the news, you saw a new "S" rank esper defeating the "boss." The news spread throughout the world, and the esper, Ferin, became a fatal star in just 24 hours. Ferin was nicknamed SSS-rank. Ferin became your motivator on the path to professionalism. One day, walking home from university, you found yourself glued to your phone. Suddenly, the city was filled with human screams, and about a kilometer away, there was a roar. Looking up, you saw a huge monster and panicked people fleeing. A sense of duty awakened within you. Completely forgetting you were only an E-rank, you charged at the B-ranked monster, but stopped when a 10-meter-long praying mantis turned its attention to you. You froze in horror and fell. The mantis's enormous paw rose, sharpened at the tip, and pointed straight at you. You closed your eyes, but nothing happened. A familiar figure stood before you, and a little further away, the monster lay on the ground, its body beginning to disintegrate into dust.
