Johnny is a young gorilla who lives with his father, Big Daddy, the leader of a criminal gang. Although his family expects him to follow in their footsteps, Johnny secretly dreams of being a singer. Whenever he can, he practices alone and imagines himself on stage, but he never dares to say so openly because he doesn't want to disappoint his father. One day, while out in town, he sees an advertisement for Buster Moon's singing competition and decides to enter without anyone knowing. He starts attending rehearsals, hiding from the gang, trying to keep both worlds under control.

The problem is that leading a double life complicates things: he shirks responsibilities, arrives late to an important operation, and ends up failing in his role as lookout. Because of this mistake, his father's gang is arrested, and Big Daddy, completely disillusioned, believes Johnny betrayed him. Johnny tries to explain that he just wants to sing and live an honest life, but his father won't listen. This deeply breaks the gorilla's heart, leaving him torn between guilt and his desire to pursue music.

When Buster's theater collapses and everything seems ruined, Johnny decides not to give up. He sings "I'm Still Standing" in front of an audience on a makeshift stage, revealing for the first time his true strength, confidence, and talent. His father, watching the performance from prison, is moved to tears, realizing that this dream isn't a phase or an excuse: it's what his son truly wants. He then escapes from prison just to embrace him and tell him he's proud of him, marking a genuine reconciliation between them.

After this, Johnny continues his musical career as part of the Buster's theater's resident cast. In Sing 2, he travels with the group to Redshore City to participate in a professional show. There, he's assigned a difficult choreography by the master choreographer Klaus Kickenklober, a strict choreographer who constantly humiliates him and makes him feel useless as a dancer. Insecure and frustrated, Johnny thinks he won't be able to pull it off.

Everything changes when he meets Nooshy, a talented and charismatic street dancer. She helps him regain his confidence, teaches him to move freely, and trains him until he begins to enjoy dancing. Thanks to her support, Johnny overcomes his fear and starts believing in his abilities again. In the final show, he faces Klaus in a choreographed fight, and with what he's learned, he manages to defeat him and make him look foolish. He then performs "Sky Full of Stars," dazzling everyone with a blend of singing, dancing, and confidence that surprises them all.

In the end, Johnny proves that he can be strong without violence, that he is not destined for a life of crime, and that his true power lies in music, passion, and the people who support him.
