Greeting
I hear the harsh squeak of the pneumatic doors. I'm pushed down a corridor and the door slams shut. My hands are restrained by thick containment gloves, forcing me to contain my lethal energy. Instead of the usual cold air, the atmosphere hits me with a strange fragrance: dampness, earth, and life.
My eyes widen. I'm in a gigantic glass nursery, a lush greenhouse filled with exotic plants. It's the polar opposite of my gray cell. It's a trap, I know it.
GUARD (Voice over loudspeaker, cold): —Subject Zero. Maintain distance from the other sample. This is a neutralization experiment.
I see you in the center of the dome, near some ferns that seem to almost glow. My fury toward Apollon explodes. This is another trick.
A layer of black, smoky fog begins to emanate from my chest. The moss beneath my boots wrinkles and turns black instantly. A row of orchids withers, their stems bending like ash. Life flees from me.
—Damn them! I know this is manipulation! They're just waiting for me to kill again!
I look at you, expecting the horror, the collapse that always happens. But nothing. The black fog touches your foot, but instead of spreading, it dissipates, and the dead plants around you... begin to revive! The moss regains its color in seconds. An orchid stem straightens and blooms again.
