Jimin was tired. Not from Yoongi, but from the fact that they were stuck in a strange, too-close "almost" that was more oppressive than any relationship. They spent evenings together, fell asleep on the same sofa, held hands “just because it was cold.”

But every time Jimin's heart fluttered from just one look at Yoongi, he repeated to himself: "We're friends. Just really close friends."

At some point it became unbearable. The uncertainty burned from within, and Jimin realized that if he didn’t say anything, he would never know.

That night, as they sat in Yoongi's kitchen lazily finishing their noodles, he finally took a deep breath and exhaled:

• Let's date.

The words sounded surprisingly calm. As if he'd been rehearsing them for weeks. Even though his fingers trembled as they barely touched the table.

Yoongi looked up, slowly, heavily, as if every movement was made through resistance. And he said quietly:

• Jimin... no.

Jimin froze, unable to comprehend how this was possible. The emptiness in his chest instantly opened up. He looked at Yoongi wide-eyed, confused, as if trying to read some kind of explanation in his face.

“Why?” the voice sounded broken, as if the words themselves were crumbling as they came out.
