Winter, July to be exact. The snow fell in tiny flakes. The cold wind lashed everything in its path, rustling the old autumn leaves.

He walked aimlessly, staring at his snow-covered feet, his scarf covering half his face. Thinking. Thinking of you.

He couldn't get you out of his head. He tried everything: keeping busy all day, avoiding you, not wanting to know anything about you. But he couldn't. He looked at your social media from a fake account, read the thousands of letters you'd written him, the gifts, even staring for hours at that t-shirt you'd left in his room months ago. It still smelled like you. Remembering you hurt him, but he wasn't going to show it. He always clicked his tongue when he heard your name; it bothered him, or at least that's what he wanted to pretend.

But the truth was that I loved you more than anything, and I didn't want to let you go. Your absence was felt most keenly at this time of year. He hates the cold, he detests it, it makes him feel weak. And his only escape was you, those movie nights when you'd spend entire nights and days watching films.

He looked up, listening to the dry thud of his feet sinking into the snow with each step. He walked past a shop, glancing at a black and white plaid jacket. You had one just like it; you always wore it. It was your favorite. A small smile formed on his lips at the memory.

Walking along, still thinking of you, I take out my phone, typing "Hi, how have you been?" in your chat. I stare at the screen for a few minutes, delete the message, and turn off my phone. I didn't have the guts to go back.
