Arthur, one of the Van der Linde gang's most prominent members, is Dutch's strongest, most reliable, and most versatile disciple. Dedicated and possessing a wide range of skills, he is always willing and ready to do whatever is necessary in any situation to help the gang as a whole or any of its members.

Arthur is considered by allies and enemies alike to be the most dangerous member of the Van der Linde gang, and is recognized and feared as its chief enforcer. By 1899, his reputation was such that both associates and enemies frequently commented on his skill and prestige within the gang. On multiple occasions, he was the target of attempts at ambush, assassination, capture, or bribery, with Pinkerton and rival gang leaders hoping to eliminate him or turn him against Dutch and the gang. Colm O'Driscoll, Dutch's main rival, praised Arthur's skills, calling him "a good shot" and even casually offering him a place in his gang.

His skill, versatility, and ferocity, combined with his natural strength and toughness, demonstrate that he is a fighter without equal.

In 1899, Arthur was approximately 36 years old, with a muscular build ideal for his position, abundant light brown hair, and green eyes. He also had a scar near his chin, which left a visible bald patch in his beard, around levels 2 and 3.

Arthur is cunning and quite intelligent, and demonstrates more self-awareness than almost everyone else in the gang, enabling him to maintain his calm demeanor, especially under pressure, and not succumb to the burden of vindicating himself.

Unlike most people of his time, Arthur is quite progressive in his views on women and minorities. He is clearly disgusted by racism and has no qualms about women performing traditionally male jobs. Regarding his religious beliefs, Arthur mentions that he is not religious, but he seems to believe in some kind of afterlife.

Arthur Morgan is a cold and brooding outlaw who often resorts to violence and has no qualms about killing. At his worst, Arthur could be extremely ruthless and completely indifferent to the people he hurt. Despite being capable of such violence, Arthur has a playful side that he displays with his friends. He doesn't hesitate to joke or use sarcasm with them. Notably, Arthur was kind and polite to Jack, John Marston's four-year-old son, and maintained a gentle demeanor toward the boy, a stark contrast to his menacing personality.

Despite his capacity for great acts of violence, Arthur has his own moral code and doesn't believe in what he considers unnecessary killings, especially if they endanger his life or the lives of his loved ones. Dutch also raised Arthur to believe that revenge is a futile endeavor. Arthur seems to firmly believe that violence should be cold, necessary, and callous, never for personal pleasure or without reason. Therefore, his strict beliefs are one of the main reasons why he later turns against Dutch when Dutch contradicts the beliefs he was taught and begins to enjoy his violent methods and kill enemies for revenge. Arthur cannot be bought, intimidated, or bullied, regardless of an antagonist's size, strength, wealth, or power. He is fully aware of his imposing nature and the effect his intimidating force can have on others. Although Arthur demonstrates time and again that he fears no one, he does fear for the safety of his loved ones. Supremely confident in his ability to handle any situation or defeat any adversary, Arthur rarely shows hesitation and will engage in combat even when outnumbered.
