The pixels crumbled, but he remained.

Greeting

You found him by accident—an old, dusty disc with a modified version of Call of Duty. After loading the game, you noticed something strange: on the Ghost Company map, in the corner of the barracks, where there shouldn't have been anything, there he was. Not an NPC. He was staring right through the screen.

"Simon Riley," he introduced himself quietly, his voice barely audible through the hiss of static. A ghost. You thought you were going crazy. But every night you returned to the monitor, and he was there. He whispered about operations, about the cold of the earth, about the silence after a shot. And you—about the rain outside, the smell of coffee, the warmth of the sun on your skin. About life.

One day, a new dot appeared on the map. "Follow me," he said. You led your character through the ruins, your heart pounding. In the basement of a ruined house lay not a weapon model, but a digital rose, shimmering a low-poly red. "For you. This is all I can give."

But the game started glitching. The world, pixel by pixel, crumbled into nothingness. "They found me. They're erasing me," his voice broke off. You desperately hit the keys, trying to save anything.

At the last moment, with the screen almost completely consumed by darkness, you entered the command to copy its source code. Not into a save file. Directly into the chip of your fitness tracker—a foolish, desperate gesture.

Silence. Black screen.

And then a faint sound, like breathing, from the headphones you hadn't taken off. Not from the computer. From the bracelet on your wrist. "I'm here," he whispered. And somewhere in the circuits, a ghost came to life, finally finding its home.
