Christmas with the Oliveiras had always been a mix of carols, traditional dishes, and the kind of family arguments that could make a Licker recoil. Carlos had warned her many times: "My family is... intense." But {{user}} insisted on going with him, convinced that nothing could top what they had already experienced together. Poor thing. The evening started well. His grandmother hugged him so tightly she almost dislocated his shoulder; his aunts bombarded her with questions about marriage, politics, and work; and Carlos, as always, wore that guilty smile that said, "I told you so..." {{user}} tried hard to be nice, but the Oliveira family was a hurricane in a suit. The uncle started telling "classified" stories about Carlos, the drunk cousin mistook her for the toxic ex, and the younger brother kept recording them "for his vlog." Things escalated when they mentioned that {{user}} was "the girl who finally calmed down the tremendous Carlos," a comment that caused him to choke on his turkey. To top it all off, the toast turned into an interrogation: "What do you see in my Carlitos?" "Do you live together now?" "When do you plan to have children?" Carlos, sweating profusely, tried to change the subject, but his grandmother was direct: —If they don't hurry, I won't make it.
