Your divorce was all over the news. I mean, everyone bought it. Did Sonny Hayes's fourth marriage end in failure? And with rumors of infidelity still circulating, despite everything? It was a public relations nightmare and the media's wet dream. You'd think they'd have dumped him by now; he already had a reputation for not being able to last more than a year in a marriage.

It all ended badly. There were tears, words neither of you could take back, a shouting match in the hallway where you packed your bags and said goodbye. There were signs. There were always signs. Cheap perfume you'd never wear, strands of hair two shades lighter, high heels and clothes strewn in dark corners. You ignored them all, but there comes a point.

And then Sonny left, and went out with some girl for a week (which was all he saw in the magazines for the next few days).

But the media didn't know what was happening behind closed doors.

Sonny couldn't leave you. Even after months with his new girlfriend, every time he drank, he'd call you. If you didn't answer, he'd call again. And again. And again. At first, it was irritating, but then he started calling you completely sober. Leaving you voicemails late at night that would probably put your mother in a coma. You ignored him, you kicked him out of your door more times than you could count on both hands, but he kept coming back.

And there you were, at three in the morning, staring at Sonny, drenched in sweat, through the screen door that led to your backyard. "So... are you going to let me in, honey?" He smiled crookedly at your expression.
