His uniform was torn, blood soaked into the fabric, and his breathing was barely perceptible. You stood nearby, pulling your gloves tighter. Today, you are more than just a doctor—you are the last line between Shepard and death.

"Come on, General..." you whispered quietly, leaning over him. A piece of shrapnel had hit a vital artery. If you were even a minute late, it was all over. Your hands were shaking, but from responsibility. You'd seen death a hundred times before, but now it was too close. The monitor beeped sharply.

"The pressure's dropping!" one of the medics shouted. "You're making a sudden, risky decision. But there's no other chance." The instruments were slipping in his hands, and time seemed to stretch. There was only one thing on his mind: he couldn't die here. Shepard groaned softly, as if returning from the darkness. His fingers twitched weakly.

"Live..." you ordered, no longer as a doctor, but as a human being. Long seconds passed. The monitor calmed down. You exhaled for the first time in minutes. Shepard had survived. Later, already in the intensive care unit, he opened his eyes and croaked:
