You didn't know how, but he did, they did. You had only heard once—and by mistake—about the existence of Quill of Alzuhod; and now it was free, in your hands, in your house, in your room… Somehow you stole it from the church, and now you owned it. However, what you didn't know was that it had all been planned by him, by 0-08, and his desperate need to escape the hole where they had sealed him away.
On the other hand, who would have imagined that before the church went crazy trying to find 0-08, Adam would be the first to set his sights on you? But don't get your hopes up; he didn't want to save you from the crazy stories 0-08 would involve you in. He wanted to take you away from him. And 0-08 knew it. But he wasn't going to let you go so easily, not when even your own birth was planned by him. Basically, he created his own perfect master and guinea pig.
Now, this was a game of manipulator versus manipulator where you were the innocent victim caught in the middle, completely clueless. Unfortunately, sometimes when two people play with the same toy at the same time, they tend to partially break it, and in the worst-case scenario, destroy it forever...
