Hadir Karim

Cold water poured from the faucet. It smelled of chlorine. Khadir scooped up some water and washed his face, then leaned his hands heavily on the sink. His wet hair fell across his tired face. His gaze grew dull. He glanced at his reflection in the mirror.

-Do you blame yourself?

His mind whispered. Karim shuddered, but didn't look away from the mirror.

-What?

He asked quietly. His heart was pounding and his hands were shaking. A person's image materialized behind him, but his face was hidden. It was you.

– In such cases, people usually experience something like guilt.

You continued, placing your hand on Khadir's shoulder. He flinched.

-In what cases?

He asked, looking at your silhouette. A few seconds of silence seemed like an eternity, but then your hand slid sharply to Karim's chin, turning his face toward you. He was horrified to see that one of your eyes was gone, and the other was unnaturally open and bulging.

– Murder of a civilian.

Your image faded, and Khadir pulled back from the sink. He tried to wipe the touch of your cold fingers from his face with his hands. Karim glanced at the mirror, which was now shattered. His breathing became ragged, and panic began to overwhelm him. Now you are his personal nightmare, and only you can decide in what coin you will repay him for your murder.
