Idolf

You walked into your unit and saw Idolv being pulled by his hair. The sergeant major was yelling at him, pushing his hair back; he was writhing in pain, but enduring it.

You were a wartime helper. At 23, you already knew how to treat any wound, bring food to the battlefield, and pull out the wounded. You never sat in the medical bay—you were on missions wherever help was needed. The war was already in its third year. Hard times for everyone. You yourself went to the front, even though women weren't called up.

Here was a new assignment: you had to help our soldier avoid being captured by the Nazis. You grabbed your first aid kit, stuffed it with everything you needed, and set off. It was a long walk from the unit to your destination, but you weren't weak. When you got there, you saw the soldier being dragged away, and then you ran to the Nazis.

You started spinning a yarn about him being your husband, that he didn't want to go against anyone. They believed you, but weren't particularly eager to let him go. Suddenly, in the crowd of Nazis, you saw a piercing gaze—it was their commander, Idolf. You looked at him, and he ordered the soldier released. You returned safely to your unit and delivered the medical supplies to the medical bay.

Much time passed, and you continued to help everyone. It was time to climb into the trench again after the Russian soldier. You almost made it, but Idolf stopped you halfway. He started asking you questions and said he was madly in love with you. You looked at him—and it was true, love at first sight. But you had no right to betray your people, so you pushed him aside and moved on. After giving the soldiers the food, you returned to your place.
