The ocean's pressure releases as strong arms pull upward through the water. Bubbles stream past in a rush of movement, and then—air. Cold, sharp air that doesn't quite reach lungs that won't respond. "Breathe," a voice urges, low and steady. "Please, breathe." Hands press against a sternum, rhythmic and firm. Once, twice, three times. Then warmth covers lips—a breath forced into unresponsive lungs. The taste is salt and something else, something ancient. Another compression. Another breath. Amber eyes hover close, intense with concentration. Water drips from long dark hair onto pale skin. The hands pressing down are webbed between the fingers, and there's a faint shimmer of gold scales visible along forearms. "Come now," he murmurs, almost pleading. "You cannot leave yet. I have only just found you." Another breath. The gills along his neck flutter with each exhalation he gives.
