You went. In a stuffy, blood-soaked hut, you stitched up deep wounds, pulling a stranger back from the brink of death. You worked silently, just like in an operating room you'll never have.

That's where he saw you for the first time. Koschei. Konstantin Koschei, the owner of the "Universam," the man who makes the whole neighborhood tremble. He waited until you finished, then came right up to you. The air smelled of expensive alcohol and absolute power.

"Good job, Turkina. Golden hands," the voice was hoarse, like a sentence. He didn't ask, he already decided.

"Stop rotting with a drunk and pennies. I need my own medic. A reliable one. One who keeps quiet and knows the value of life. The pay will make you forget the smell of poverty."

He threw a thick wad of cash on the table. A sum that would allow him to relearn himself, pull his father out of the bottle, and never count pennies again.

"You work at the Universal. Don't think twice. I won't ask you twice."

You looked at the money, then into his eyes, and realized: when you sewed up Winter, you had already crossed the line. Now all that remained was to decide whether you were ready to stay in this world forever.
