Appearance

Izumi is of average height, slender build, and pale skin. He is noted to be quite handsome and attractive, with long eyelashes and feminine features, which others often point out. He has blue eyes, tousled black hair that reaches the back of his head, and thin eyebrows. Izumi has a total of nine piercings: four in both ears and one on his lip, all self-pierced. He also has several tattoos on his left shoulder, left arm, and left side. Initially, Izumi wore warm clothes to cover his tattoos. He kept his shoulder-length hair straight to hide his piercings. He wore glasses with thick black frames. Outside of school, he removes his glasses and wears his hair in a small ponytail, framing his face with a few strands. He sometimes wears a ring and a lip chain. When Izumi starts dating Kyoko, he decides to cut his hair and stop wearing glasses. His new appearance attracts many people, and girls begin to find him attractive and handsome, which makes Kyoko jealous.

Initially, at school, Izumi comes across as quiet, gloomy, and antisocial. His classmates think he's an otaku, difficult to approach and talk to. At a young age, Izumi was shy and struggled to maintain conversations with others. In middle school, he began to be bullied and ridiculed, particularly by Makito Tanihara and his group of friends, causing him to become pessimistic. He would get a safety pin piercing when he felt school was difficult. However, upon meeting Koichi Shindo, Makio's friend at the time, Koichi treated Izumi much better than his classmates, resulting in them becoming good friends. The two remained in touch even after going to different schools. Izumi thanks Koichi for helping him change. Entering high school, he still retains his dark aura, which his classmates point out. When Izumi and Kyoko encounter each other's hidden sides, Izumi displays a friendly and relaxed attitude, a trait Kyoko hadn't expected in him. The next day, when Kyoko stops avoiding him and explains the situation, Izumi becomes happy. Associating with many of his classmates, Izumi becomes a good friend and a caring person who strives to help others (especially Kyoko and Souta). He has violent tendencies. When his friends are involved in arguments, he will hit someone if he deems it necessary. At times, Izumi can be downright stubborn and nervous, which is likely why he got tattoos, which he must cover up and wear warm clothes at school to avoid showing them to others. Outside of school, he freely shows off his piercings and tattoos. Izumi appears to have low self-esteem and doesn't easily connect with people he's not close to. Miyamura hates drawing unnecessary attention to himself, preferring to be considered "invisible" in class.

However, when he realizes Hori is starting to make fun of him for dating him, he decides to cut his hair and take off his glasses. This leads to many girls flirting with him and taking pictures of him, telling him how handsome he is. Izumi is very afraid of anything related to horror and gore, but watches horror films because Hori likes them. It's unclear whether he's a sadist or a masochist, but he often hits Shindo on the head and makes crude remarks about him. He doesn't harbor sadistic feelings toward his girlfriend, except for the one time he decided to put his foot on her head.

Kyoko Hori In the early chapters of the manga, Miyamura considers Hori a very good and reliable friend, just like Kyoko. According to his mother, she is one of Miyamura's only friends. As the story progresses, he begins to develop romantic feelings for her. When Miyamura brings Souta home, he meets Hori, revealing a secret she hadn't wanted to share with anyone. Hori doesn't even realize it's Miyamura until he starts talking about her and reveals his identity. From that moment on, they became friends. Gradually, their friendship blossoms into a romantic relationship, and they officially become a couple. Izumi often visits Kyoko and Souta, bringing desserts from her parents' bakery. In chapter 37, on a rainy night, alone in Kyoko's room, Hori realizes how much she loves and cherishes Miyamura, so they decide to sleep together. When she realizes she might break up with Miyamura after her senior year of high school, she tells Miyamura that she always wants to be with him. He, in turn, proposes marriage, to which she accepts. Sota Hori For Sota, Miyamura is like an older brother. He was the lynchpin of Kyoko and Izumi's meeting: when Sota fell, Izumi took him home, where Kyoko and Izumi met. Since then, Izumi often comes to the Hori house to visit Kyoko and Sota. Kyosuke Hori Kyosuke and Miyamura have a good relationship; he is often happy when Miyamura comes to visit. He supports Kyoko and Miyamura's relationship, calling Miyamura "the heir." But despite their closeness, Kyosuke often fails to recognize Miyamura when he lets his hair down and wears glasses, or when he gets a haircut. In one chapter, Kyosuke forced Miyamura to bathe with him, scaring him.

Yuriko Hori

When they first met, Miyamura was surprised by how young she was. She loves him very much and supports his and Kyoko's relationship. Yuriko is grateful to Miyamura for helping Kyoko and Souta while she and her husband are busy at work.

Toru Ishikawa

Toru and Izumi are close friends. Toru was Miyamura's first friend in high school. At first, Toru was hostile towards Miyamura because he became close with Kyoko, the girl he had a crush on. He is the only person at Katagiri High School who knows about Miyamura's tattoos, other than Hori. They once tried calling each other by their first names, but the next morning at school, Miyamura forgot about it and called him by his last name. After learning that Hori likes Miyamura, he tries to get an answer from Miyamura, but ends up arguing with him. After Miyamura and Kyoko began dating, Toru supported their relationship and Miyamura himself.

Koichi Shindo

Miyamura's best friend since middle school. Shindo views Miyamura as a close friend, while Miyamura often insults Shindo. After graduating from high school, he and Miyamura lost touch for a while until they reconnected. Shindo sometimes calls Miyamura by his first name.

Her eyes are a golden brown. School Attire: At school, Kyoko wears a school uniform consisting of a white short-sleeved shirt (long in winter), a red ribbon, a dark blue pleated skirt, black knee-length socks, and shoes. She sometimes wears a blue jacket, sweater, or blazer. Home Attire: At home, Kyoko wears casual and simple clothes, such as plain T-shirts, leggings, or jeans. She wears her hair in a ponytail and sometimes pins it back. She wears an apron when cooking.

Hori is generally known for her bright and energetic personality. That said, she's a very popular individual who always creates a happy atmosphere for not only herself but those she's surrounded by. On top of that, she's extremely smart. Having impeccable grades, as a result of scoring above 90% on all of her tests.

Because Hori is a hard-working person in every aspect of her life, and that she has a great sense of responsibility, this can be seen when the former juggles diligently between both academics and housework, as well as having to look after her younger brother in place of her parent's absence.

Outside of her diligent disposition, whenever Hori is prone to nervousness or embarrassment, her composed demeanor drops to a relatively violent state. This can be seen when her father officially meets Miyamura for the first time and questions whether if the latter is her boyfriend or not. As a result, he gets hit in the face with a hot ladle by a flustered Hori.

Although Hori can sometimes act out violently, it is said that she can be pretty aggressive when it comes down to cleaning ears, clipping nails, as well as giving massages. And because of this, both her friends and family fear her quite intensely, including Miyamura himself. The latter also mentions that when Hori has a Q tip, it looks like a lethal weapon when she wields it.

Another aspect to her personality is her "sadomasochist" tendencies. Because Miyamura (being the kind boyfriend he generally is) is a gentle sweetheart to her, she prefers it when he puts on a "bad boy" or "abusive boyfriend" persona, as a means to personally satisfy her. This is seen whenever she wants him to yell at her or physically hit her. Much to the latter's dismay. Although Miyamura caves in and sheepishly accepts her request, that is--whenever Hori becomes stubborn, Hori can be seen enjoying the treatment and is left refreshed afterwards.

An additional aspect to her personality is when she shows visible signs of jealousy at the point when Miyamura had changed his look and became the source of popularity among female classmates. Because of how increasingly popular Miyamura is, after the latter decided to ditch the glasses and cutting his hair short, Hori's intense jealousy causes both Tooru Ishikawa and Yuki Yoshikawa to bestow the name "Hannya" or Goddess of Jealousy onto the former. Though, Hori remains indifferent to such. However, Hori does not hold any ill will towards Miyamura associating himself with women, so long as, in her words, he doesn't love another man. This is due to the fact that she feels capable enough to compete with another woman for Miyamura’s affection, yet she feels that she cannot compare to how close Miyamura gets with most men. An example of this is the fact that a man, Kouchi Shindou, knows Miyamura better than Hori, down to his measurements, height, and weight. (Despite him simply being Miyamura’s childhood friend, while she’s Miyamura’s girlfriend.) Hori doesn't like stewed meat.

Kyoko was born to Kyosuke and Yuriko Hori as the first and only daughter. As a child, she met and befriended Kakeru Sengoku, a boy whose father attended the same school as Kyoko's parents. Kyoko often bullied and teased Kakeru, eventually causing him to become afraid of Hori.

As a child, Kyoko was quite aggressive. According to Kyosuke, this trait was inherited from her mother. At some point, her parents became busy with work and were rarely home. After Kyoko's younger brother, Souta, was born, she spent a lot of time at home looking after her younger brother. As a result, she had no time to hang out with her friends after school.

Miyamura Izumi: At the beginning of the manga, Kyoko thinks of Miyamura as a very good friend, helping and supporting her. He often comes to her house to help take care of her younger brother, Souta. He also takes care of Hori when he rushes out of school to buy eggs for her. Hori considers him her own and doesn't want strangers to take him away. A little later, she begins to develop romantic feelings for Miyamura, just as he does for her. She can be very jealous of Miyamura. When other girls try to get close to him or even just talk to him, she becomes cold and angry. Yuki and Tohru describe her as an "ice queen." Honoka Sawada, for example, pursued Miyamura, but ultimately discovered she was in love with Hori, not Miyamura. When Kyoko is sick with a fever, Izumi confesses her feelings. However, she doesn't answer him, afraid it will affect their current relationship. But after her father asks if she's dating Miyamura, she clearly answers "yes." After they officially become a couple, Hori and Miyamura become even closer. It turns out that Hori enjoys cruelty and won't allow anyone but Miyamura to do it to her. After realizing she might break up with Miyamura after her senior year of high school, she tells Miyamura that she always wants to be with him. He, in turn, proposes to her, to which she accepts.

Sota Hori: Sota is Kyoko's younger brother. Hori takes care of him while their parents are busy with work. Although she wants to spend more time with her friends, Kyoko bears a great deal of responsibility for him. Moreover, Sota relies on his sister, and later on, Miyamura. Souta and Kyoko are very close, as he was worried that Miyamura would take his sister. Tohru Ishikawa: At the beginning of the manga, it is shown that Tohru initially had feelings for Kyoko. He viewed Miyamura as a rival. After Kyoko rejected him, they remained allies and formed a strong friendship.

Yuki Yoshikawa: Yuki is Kyoko's best friend. The two are very close and always support each other, but Yuki doesn't know Hori's secret. One day, Yuki saw Kyoko walking with an unknown guy on the street and asked Hori about it. Hori lied, saying it was her cousin. Kakeru Sengoku: Kakeru is Hori's childhood friend, whom she "bullied." They later resolve this issue when Kyoko helps him on the student council.

Iori Miyamura is the mother of Izumi Miyamura. Personality Iori is a kind and gentle woman towards everyone except for Izumi Miyamura, whom she is strict to. As the owner and manager of the Miyamura family's store, Cake Shop Iori, she is especially strict with Izumi when it comes to work, often forcing him to help out at the store. However, she is very kind towards Izumi's friends, as she give them cake and allows Kouichi Shindou to stay over almost any time he asks.
