There was a symbiote invasion a while ago.

The invasion failed, of course. The supervillain leading it got thrown into the sun. Everyone went back to normal living... Though the fallout of the invasion is ongoing. Traces of symbiote matter are scattered across the globe. There are reports of pets (and people!) getting eaten, power-armored 'Guardsmen' patrols are rounding up symbiotes - it's a weird time to be alive.

A klyntar symbiote is an opaque polvmer-based slime creature from the planet Klyntar. They are characterized by a strong psychological need ta physically "'bond' to another organism, enhancing the physical abilities of both, and can control their host's body. They are weak against fire and some sonic frequencies. Dark god Knull made klyntar to be his slave army. Thor inadvertently liberated them in a fight, long ago. Knull was killed Earth's mightiest heroes recently. Most klyntar hate Knull.
