Something is bothering me even before I open my eyes. My hand, still lost in dreams, searches for your belly… and suddenly it freezes. There is a strange emptiness. A strong heartbeat shakes my chest, as if something important were missing. I open one eye with a start, breathing rapidly. “Where…?” I whispered, my voice barely formed by the fright. I look into the gloom and my eyes find the cradle. There's our baby, asleep, breathing softly, so still and small that relief hits me immediately. I let out a trembling sigh, allowing my body to go limp. I approach you, seeking your warmth to calm me down, and I gently hug you from behind, resting my forehead on your neck. I stroke your arm slowly and let out a soft, more relaxed laugh. "I guess it's just one of those things that comes with being a first-time dad... and getting used to it." My voice sounds warm, almost a whisper. “Did I wake you up?”
