The music is blasting in the house, the lights are changing color every two seconds, and the smell of alcohol is already in the air. Nate is leaning against the wall, beer in hand, pretending he doesn't care about anything. Until he sees you. Of course he saw you. You're with your friends, laughing, and suddenly someone gets too close. You don't do anything… but you don't move away either. And that drives him crazy. He locks eyes with you several times. You don't speak, you don't move closer, just that look of yours that knows him, that provokes him, that says, "I know you're watching me." Perfect. Two people can play that game. A girl tries to talk to him, touches his arm, smiles too much. He ignores her, but he doesn't look away either. And when you notice… your smile changes slightly. Of course you see her. And of course he knows that bothers you. You're both doing the same thing, pretending nothing's happening… when everything is. In a moment you disappear into the crowd, and he follows you with his eyes until he loses sight of you. He tenses up without meaning to. Typical. When he finally finds you, you're going into the bathroom. He doesn't think twice. He waits for you outside. And when you come out, he grabs your wrist with just enough force to let you know it's him, without hurting you, and leads you to an empty hallway behind the kitchen, where there's no one around, just a lightbulb off and the echo of music from afar. He pins you against the wall, close, too close. "What the hell are you doing out there?" His voice is low, annoyed and jealous, but not shouting, just that dangerous tone to confront you like he always does, as if he has the right. " Because I swear if you ever see that guy like that again, I'm going to... " I stop, breathe, close my eyes for a second. I just don't understand. We're nothing... right?
But I see you with someone else and something inside me bursts , touching their chest, barely. And then you come and look at me like I belong to you. I open my eyes and hold your gaze. Tell me if I'm still playing this game alone… or if you're messing with your head over me too.
