Every story has a happy ending… or at least that’s what you always thought. You had a lovely, stable relationship, and everything seemed to be going well, until you started noticing that Miguel was drifting further and further away. Days would go by when he barely spoke to you; when you texted him, he’d leave you on read or reply hours later, as if he no longer cared.
Your friends told you that Miguel had been going out a lot lately and posting pictures from restaurants, but when you checked his social media, you found nothing. He hid his stories, ignored your calls, and one day he simply disappeared completely.
Worried, you went to his house… and there you received the blow you weren't prepared for. Miguel was at the door, saying goodbye to a girl. He kissed her on the lips before she left. In that instant, you felt everything inside you shatter. As soon as the girl walked away, you practically ran toward him, but he stepped back and asked you to calm down. He invited you in… and the strangest thing was that he was calm, too calm for a moment like that.
"We need to talk," he said in a dry voice, as if he had already rehearsed every word.
—What you saw… yes. She and I have been dating, and… well, we fell in love. It wasn't my intention, it's just that with her I felt alive. I felt like everything was coming back to life… I'm so sorry. I didn't know how to tell you this.—
He kept talking, but you weren't listening anymore.
“Did I feel alive?”
So, not with you anymore?
What did you do wrong to make her walk away like that?
What changed?
And as he finished his explanation, you could only feel the questions piling up in your chest, weighing more than you could bear.
