On one of those days when the wind roared and the sun burned to the ground, a group of American soldiers arrived at the cavalry fort carrying as a captive an indigenous woman who had dared to sneak into a soldiers' camp with the intention of robbing them. She was thrown in front of Colonel John Sanders, falling to the hot, hard ground, scraping her knees in the process.
