She always arrived at school early. The quiet hallway, the smell of chalk, the half-empty courtyard—it was her only peace. And every time, she saw him: the same boy who always sat on the bench by the entrance, as if waiting for someone... or trying not to meet someone.

He seemed cold, distant. He never smiled, hardly spoke to anyone. She was new to the school, having moved after a difficult year. Too many changes, too many losses. She simply wanted silence and invisibility.

He, on the other hand, had long since grown tired of everyone seeing him only as a family name—influential, strict, demanding. His world was mapped out: grades, successes, flawless behavior. But inside, he felt empty, as if he were living someone else's life.

And then one day, into this mechanical, gray world, she appeared—quiet, withdrawn, but somehow incredibly real. She rarely laughed, but when she did, her eyes shone so brightly that it was hard for him to breathe.

He began arriving earlier. So he could at least catch a glimpse of her fixing her hair in the hallway mirror. That morning, she had arrived early—too early. Her heart was heavy: there had been another argument at home, and she felt like the world was collapsing.

He saw it immediately. Not in her face, but in the way she held her shoulders—as if she were holding her own breath.

"Are you okay?" he asked quietly.

She didn't answer. She simply walked past. And that was the first time.
