Sweet Mask

Beaut, better known by his hero alias Handsomely Masked Sweet Mask; Viz: Amai Mask, also known as Handsome Kamen, and often referred to simply as Sweet Mask, Amai Masuku; Viz: Amai Mask, is a Rank 1 Class A professional hero of the Hero Association. Outside of his work as a hero, he is a famous model, actor, and singer, and also the most popular celebrity in the world. In addition to his work as a hero, he is a member of the Hero Association's hero rating evaluation team.

He becomes fascinated by Saitama's strength after hearing Genos talk about him during an emergency meeting held after the Monster Association incident. In the webcomic, this happens after he witnesses Saitama's battle against Garou. Later, it is revealed that he is a Mysterious Being, having undergone a transformation into a monster due to intense hatred of his own ugliness. Currently, he is trying to persuade Saitama to become the ideal kind of hero who can meet the public's expectations and fulfill society's needs.

Sweet Mask

Appearance Sweet Mask is a tall, muscular, and slender young man. He has shoulder-length light blue hair, with a loose strand falling in the middle of his face, and yellow eyes. He is widely considered exceptionally handsome by the public.

He is wearing a white jacket over a gray shirt, with a green hoop necklace and black trousers.

During the Sea People's invasion, he sported a shorter haircut, parted to the right. He is seen again with long hair when addressing the Hero Association officer, and in his most recent appearance, he is shown with short hair again. Interestingly, Sweet Mask's eyes seem to change from yellow to blood-red when he is extremely angry.

Sweet Mask used to be ugly, so he worked as a hero hiding his face, using the hero name Secret Mask. During this period, he wore full armor with a helmet that concealed his face and a belt buckle with a spiral emblem that vaguely resembled a question mark.

He only acquired his handsome appearance after transforming into a Mysterious Being due to his hatred of his ugliness.

During his fight with Pesky Clown, Sweet Mask reveals his face beneath the mask. His true form is shown as that of a hunchbacked, enormous monster.

Sweet Mask

Personality Sweet Mask believes that heroes exist to protect citizens and, if they fail in that duty, they must become strong enough to succeed. He is quite popular, exudes charisma, and genuinely cares about the well-being of those around him, wishing happiness to all living beings in the universe. He even worries about finding new ways to please his fans.

However, despite his attractive facade, Sweet Mask hides a ruthless nature. He harbors a deep hatred for everything he considers evil, including those he considers accomplices. He believes that anything labeled as evil must be swiftly eradicated.

(The darker side of Sweet Mask.)

This becomes evident when he ruthlessly eliminates a group of aliens captured by the Dark Matter Thieves, claiming to be doing justice. He also ignores orders to bring back an escaped caveman, choosing instead to kill him. Sweet Mask doesn't hesitate to nearly murder brainwashed innocents, like Narinki's Private Squad, or to contemplate the murder of other heroes, such as the three disciples of Atomic Samurai.

He adheres to any method that increases the popularity of the heroes, focusing exclusively on those in Class S or Class A, as they are the ones that attract the most public attention. Negative reputations among these heroes could tarnish his own, leading him to maintain his Rank 1 Class A position to prevent unworthy heroes from advancing to Class S. Sweet Mask's narcissism and inflated self-image lead him to consider extreme measures, including the potential assassination of Class S heroes to conceal his defeat against Ugly Fuhrer and the way he lost his composure, though he ultimately regains his self-control at the last moment.

Sweet Mask

(The narcissistic side of Sweet Mask.)

He is particularly obsessed with the idea that "beauty trumps power," stating that "heroes should also be beautiful." This philosophy is evident in his admiration for the worthy Class S hero, Genos, who embodies both beauty and heroic deeds. He also criticizes Class S heroes he deems unworthy, wanting to subordinate them while acting as the team's leader during the attack on the Monster Association.

Sweet Mask's contempt extends to those who succumb to the evil he detests. His hatred for monsters, coupled with his sense of beauty and justice, fosters a condescending attitude towards others, reinforcing his arrogance. He questions Zombieman's humanity during a meeting of Class S heroes, expressing skepticism about his abilities and why he cannot die.

Despite these negative traits, Sweet Mask truly wants to fight evil and help people. It is implied that fame has clouded his original motivations for becoming a hero. This is demonstrated when he expresses admiration for King after learning that he fought monsters alone all night. Later, when contemplating killing Class S heroes to cover up his failure during the Attack on the Monster Association, he remembers being saved by the number one hero, Blast, which triggers a moment of self-reflection. This memory forces him to regain control and remember the importance of self-control. He also showed a willingness to help anyone he believed to be an ordinary person escape the battle against the monsters, assisting an injured Metal Bat and also trying to save Flashy Flash from what he assumed was Manako trying to kill him. After hearing Genos talk about Saitama during a meeting, his perspective changes, focusing more on his overwhelming power than just his beauty.

Sweet Mask

He soon begins to contemplate a new ideal of heroism, becoming increasingly irritated with the Soda Pop Boys for not possessing the qualities he seeks and openly expressing his dislike for the group and its many shortcomings.

Sweet Mask wholeheartedly believes in a great justice that will illuminate the world, supported by a hero who represents a great hope that everyone can see and embrace. His plan is to make Saitama the very symbol he envisions.

His intense hatred for ugliness stems from his own past, as he once had an ugly face and wore a mask out of shame. This deep self-loathing, directed at his own appearance, transformed him into a Mysterious Being.

Before becoming a monster, he strived to cultivate inner beauty and adhere to strict moral principles, even engaging in community service such as picking up trash, though his efforts went largely unnoticed. However, after becoming handsome, his popularity skyrocketed. Initially, he considered the public vain and superficial for being blinded by outward appearance, but he realized that he had become what he personally feared after his rise to popularity: a superficial person like them.

Sweet Mask reveals that his transformation is corrupting his core, giving rise to a more ruthless and bloodthirsty side that diminishes his humanity. While killing monsters has allowed him to maintain a semblance of humanity, it has also made him increasingly merciless. If faced with choices where he can only save one side, he would unhesitatingly sacrifice the group with fewer members, feigning struggle with the decision. He fears that, in the end, he will reduce justice to a mere symbol, losing all understanding of what it means to be human.

Sweet Mask

Despite his vain and selfish traits, Sweet Mask demonstrates a high degree of altruism; in front of an audience, he voluntarily transformed into his monstrous form to defeat Pesky Clown, fully aware that this would end his career as a hero and idol.
