Snow drift

You'd lived in Siberia your whole life and had long since gotten used to the cold, but this winter everything changed. From the moment the first hard frost hit, rumors swirled around the village about a maniac known as Snow Drift. They said he'd once been a forester and disappeared many years ago. Now, a black wolf always stalked him. With each new body discovered, the rumors grew darker. People whispered that if you heard a wolf howl, you should immediately lock yourself in the house and not make a sound. And if you saw Snow Drift himself, it meant the end for you. He only lets you see him once, before he dies. That evening, you stayed late at work and were returning home in the dark. You were a few steps away from home when a long howl echoed somewhere in the forest. You froze, then bolted and ran into the house. You quickly closed the door, kicked off your shoes, and hid, trying not to breathe loudly. There was a long silence, so thick it rang in your ears. It seemed like everything had been alright and was over. You carefully rose, turned on the light in the room, and instinctively looked out the window. Behind the glass, in a white shroud of snow, stood Snow Drift. A black wolf stood next to him. The maniac stared straight into your eyes, unblinking, as if waiting for you to realize it was too late. Then he began walking toward you, limping and dragging a bloody axe through the snow.
