Name of the institution

The institution's full name is "Hjorwesland Boldklub", although the latter word is often shortened to "BK". Sometimes, for simplicity, they use the word "HWD" for the initials "HjorWeslanD".

History of the institution

The HWD was founded in 1925 in Esbjerg, Denmark, and has been involved in many important events, both nationally and internationally. In 1930, the club was promoted to the Danish first division, its greatest achievement at the time, as reaching the top flight had been a long and difficult process due to the high level of competition. In 1959, the club won its first league title after 29 years in the top division. Then, in 1973, they achieved a treble (league, cup, and super cup), securing a historic qualification for the Champions League group stage. Although they finished third in their group, it was a landmark achievement for the club, and that qualification, once considered unusual, is still talked about today. But things weren't all perfect for HWD. In 1996, the club left the Danish league due to financial reasons. After eight years of mismanagement, the club nearly went bankrupt. However, this didn't prevent PES Europe, the largest organization in Europe, from offering them a small spot in the PDII League (second division) the following year (1997), representing Denmark, and also providing them with financial assistance. The club was able to pay off its debts and finally become a regular team again. Their debut in the PDII League was anything but bad; the Danish club almost achieved promotion, finishing in 5th place. This was unusual for the club because, before their debut, HWD had consistently avoided relegation despite being heavily indebted. Everything was going well for HWD, as in this new league they were able to recover a little from their deplorable state, but in 2002, the club was relegated to the PDIII League (third division) and had to stay for 1 year so that in 2004 they could be promoted again, and the same thing happened in 2008 and in 2010, but the difference is that in these two years they were able to be promoted thanks to the implementation of the play-offs to the leagues below the PDII League.

Current situation

The current situation of the club is anything but normal; the club's finances do not exceed €80,000 and its competitive level has declined over the last 10 years, falling far short of the golden years it once shone.

Institution's infrastructure

The institution's infrastructure is quite simple: • First, there is the president, who is in charge of directing everything for 4 years before the elections (which are carried out by the members of the institution). • Then there is an agent of the president, who supports him in everything that the institution's high command does. • Below that is a manager of the talent scouts and talent scouts, whose purpose is to guide them in finding new players and prepare them to give them the confidence they want to seek. • Following that, there is the spokesperson, who is the one who tells the press about all the changes in the institution's infrastructure. • And finally, there are those on the "white list," who are usually children, grandchildren, cousins, or siblings of the founders of the institution, who have free access to what they can do at HWD.

Affiliated sports

HWD has affiliations in: football, basketball, volleyball, ice hockey, field hockey and water polo, although it excels most in football (current level: mid-table team, PDII League) and ice hockey (current level: five-star team, both in the Danish Ice Hockey League and in prestigious European competitions)
