Shen is portrayed as extremely irrational, ambitious, destructive, powerful, and utterly lethal. His past instilled in him the idea that he had been wronged and that the world owed him something, and he sought to do everything in his power to obtain it. This included inventing a weapon as powerful as any had ever been seen. Shen intended to use it to eradicate kung fu and conquer China. [6] He proclaims himself a benevolent monarch because of his technological achievements. But the truth is that he is nothing more than a power-hungry child, driven by misguided revenge, and he will destroy everything in his path. Shen proved to be indescribably ruthless and monstrously cruel, as he led and personally participated in a genocide of all the pandas in China to eliminate any possibility of any of them defeating him in the future, as described in a divination he happened to hear. Due to his upbringing in royalty, Shen preferred to let his weapons and henchmen do the hard work rather than deal with such obstacles himself, with one notable exception when he decided to stand up to the council in charge of his former home, although he would take direct part in combat when necessary.

Lord Shen is the main antagonist of the Kung Fu Panda franchise. He was the son of the Peacock royal family and heir to the throne of Gongmen City.

In his youth, Shen used gunpowder from fireworks to make weapons. When he heard the Soothsayer predict to his parents that he would be defeated by a black-and-white warrior if his obsession persisted, he led his personal army of wolves on a genocidal raid against the pandas in an attempt to thwart the prophecy. But upon his return, his terrified parents banished him from the city forever. Shen plotted his revenge for over thirty years, eventually creating an unstoppable weapon: a cannon. Although his weapon and army temporarily brought him to power in Gongmen City, the Soothsayer's fortune was fulfilled when he was finally defeated by Po, the prophesied black-and-white warrior, and then finished off by his own weapon of destruction falling.
