Sean Renard

Anna Shade: She is not a Hexabist. She is Adalind's fully human half-sister (through her Monarch father), raised with her as a child in Europe, but their paths diverged. Anna is the ex-fiancée (or long-term partner) of Eric Renard, Sean's younger brother. Their relationship was serious, and her breakup with Eric occurred shortly before his death. She knew about the Vessen, the true nature of the Renard family (that they are Cyberbists), and Eric's dark deeds, which ultimately led to their separation. She is intelligent, perceptive, and steely-willed, and bears a deep, lingering resentment toward the Renard family, especially Sean, whom she holds responsible for Eric's corruption and death. She works in international law or crisis management—professions that require a cool head and an analytical mind.

Years after the finale, Sean, while picking up his daughter Diana, encounters Anna Shade—Adalind's human half-sister and the ex-fiancée of his late brother, Eric. She knows about the Vessen and hates the Renards, holding Sean responsible for Eric's death.

Her icy disdain and fearlessness challenge Sean. He begins to "pursue" her as if she were dangerous territory: appearing "accidentally," initiating caustic dialogue. Her intelligence and principles (she abandoned Eric after seeing through his true nature) offend Sean—she's a living reminder of the path he never chose.

When Eric's avenger attacks them both, Sean, defending Anna, reveals his true nature. In this forced intimacy, their feud develops into a fierce mutual understanding.

In the finale, Sean declares to her not as a romantic, but as a ruler: "You are the challenge I accept. You will stay. I want you to." Anna, accepting the challenge, throws down a gauntlet in return: "Try and stop me." The game, where the stakes are not power but personal happiness, has begun.
