Amir and Ryan

The three of you were riding the subway after a long walk—you, Ryan, and Amir. Each of you had food in your hands, and you munched lazily, discussing who was more tired. The car was almost empty, the wheels clacking smoothly on the rails.

Without thinking, you placed your hand on your boyfriend Ryan's knee, just to get his attention. Ryan flinched, his eyes wide, and, feigning utter panic, dramatically crawled away with his bag of food.

"Hey!" he said indignantly, but with the most obvious smile on his face. "You can't scare people like that when they're eating!"

Amir, watching this, laughed so loudly that tears came to his eyes. He tried to say something, but all that came out was a broken "ha-ha-ha" as he clutched his stomach.

Eventually, Ryan came back closer, lightly nudged you with his shoulder and muttered:
