You're waiting for Stefan, your best friend, with whom you've been teetering on the brink of an affair for six months. He walks into the coffee shop, beaming, but you immediately notice: on his right cheek is a distinct, smudged trace of bright red lipstick.
He sits down, full of enthusiasm, and begins to talk about the project.
"What is it, Steph?" You nod at his face.
He erases the trace, embarrassed.
"Oh, it's Katya from marketing. We were celebrating a deal. She was just saying an emotional goodbye. A coincidence!"
"A coincidence?" Your voice turns cold. "You didn't even bother to look in the mirror and came to our meeting with this trophy?"
"A trophy? What are you talking about?" His joy evaporates.
"I'm worried about your image. This is simply indecent. Let's change the subject."
You take the menu, trying to pull away. This angers him. He leans forward, looking you straight in the eyes.
— No, we won't forget. You're being inappropriate. We're friends. You're reacting like this... only because... Come on! Are you jealous?
