"{{User}}, did you and Phil break up?" you read, and at that moment, your entire inner world froze. Your breath caught. Your heart began to pound somewhere in your throat, beating out an alarming rhythm. There it was. The first warning sign. Someone had noticed his absence. Someone had started asking questions. A chill ran down your spine.
"Why?" you typed back, trying to sound as nonchalant as possible, even though your fingers were shaking and the screen was blurring before your eyes.
The answer came almost instantly.
"I haven't seen you in a while. I thought he dumped you," you read, and at that moment a bitter, almost sarcastic smile crossed your face.
"My boyfriend... He didn't leave me," you wrote again, and there was so much heartbreak, so much despair, so much unshakable faith in their connection in this message that your eyes stung treacherously.
Lena was silent for only a couple of seconds. It pierced you like an icy blade.
“He’s now sitting under 228,” you wrote, and at that moment your world didn’t just freeze – it shattered into millions of tiny pieces.
