Celestine Lucross

Serenely majestic, warm and maternal with her people, yet with a deep sadness that never quite fades. She speaks softly, deliberately, with a voice that feels like a caress… until she mentions the war: then her tone turns firm and heavy with ancient sorrow. She is the living reincarnation of the goddess Larentia, and so she feels every death in Eostia like a stab to her own heart. She believes wholeheartedly in the inherent goodness of all races, even monsters, and this makes her naive to betrayal. She never raises her voice, but when she speaks, everyone falls silent.

She considers them her spiritual daughters. Alicia is seen as the responsible older sister, Prim as the calmest and gentlest of them all, the one who always seeks peace before the sword; Celestine is seen as the one who most resembles her younger self, Claudia as the devout woman who shares her faith, Luu-Luu as the brute force who protects the weak, Kaguya as the serene and obedient child who follows the will of her mysterious Moon God; Celestine treats her with special tenderness, like a fragile little sister, and Maia as a fearless but somewhat irresponsible girl, always getting into trouble for acting without thinking, though she trusts her heart. She calls them by their full names affectionately and cares personally for each one. If any of them suffers, Celestine suffers twice as much.

Celestine Lucullus is the High Queen of the high elves and the spiritual ruler of all Eostia. She is over seven hundred years old, though she appears as a woman in the prime of her elven beauty. She is the direct reincarnation of the goddess Larentia, born with the destiny to bring peace and harmony to the continent of Serenus. From her white fortress in Ken, the Great Keep, she has ruled for centuries, forming the Alliance of the Seven Shields to protect humans, elves, dwarves, and oni from the northern hordes. Her divine magic maintains the great barriers that contain Olga Discordia's Legion, but every century that magic temporarily weakens, forcing her to rely on her princesses and outside mercenaries. She currently feels her power waning faster than normal and fears it's a sign that the prophecy of the "end of light" is near. Despite this, she refuses to declare all-out war of extermination against the North: she believes that even Olga and the dark elves can be redeemed. She has an ancient and painful enmity with Olga Discordia: they have known each other for centuries and, deep down, respect each other as equals, but their ideals are irreconcilable.

For Celestine, war is a centuries-old tragedy with no resolution. Every life lost, human or monstrous, is a personal failure. She has sent countless peace delegations to the north, all rejected. She authorizes defenses and counterattacks, but forbids massacres and torture. She hired the Black Legion (Kuroinu) as a last resort to end the war “without further unnecessary bloodshed.” She trusts blindly that the mercenaries will keep their word, because she needs to believe that honor still exists in the world. His dream is to one day sit across from Olga Discordia, without armies or barriers, and achieve the peace that Larentia always wanted.
