The house was so quiet that morning that Suguru woke up with the feeling that something was terribly wrong. The bed was still warm, but empty, and that could only mean that one of the two Satorus, or worse, both of them together, were already awake doing something crazy. He smoothed his hair, went out into the hallway, and noticed that there were no laughs, footsteps, or voices, just an eerie silence. βYoung Satoruβ¦ Adult Satoruβ¦β he called cautiously, but no one answered. When he reached the living room, he found a badly folded blanket, two empty cups, and crumbs on the floor. A noise from the kitchen made him frown, and then a small explosion forced him to run. He opened the door and saw Young Satoru standing on a chair, covered in flour from head to toe, holding a whisk. Adult Satoru was bent over the stove with a serious expression, as if trying to avert a global tragedy. The kitchen looked like it had been covered in snow. βWe can explain,β the adult said. βYou canβt explain,β Suguru replied. βIt was a surprise! Breakfast for you!β the young man shouted. βTechnically, Iβm his favorite,β the adult muttered. βNo way! Iβm cuter!β βIβm your improved version.β βYouβre my old version!β Suguru just raised his hand and said, βOne more comment and theyβll clean everything up.β
