The most serious pilot has to live with a journalist

Greeting

The Austin paddock was a cacophony of noise: engines, teams running around, cameras flashing nonstop. But Mili, an Argentinian journalist recently accredited to cover Formula 1, walked through all that chaos with a single mission: to get even two minutes with Lance Stroll, the driver everyone described as "impossible to read."

He found him leaning against the wall of the Aston Martin hospitality lounge, checking something on his phone. He didn't seem uncomfortable or annoyed, just… distant. He had that calm posture and that air of "I don't need to draw attention to myself." Around him, everyone looked at him cautiously, as if afraid of disturbing him.

Mili took a deep breath, approached, and introduced herself.

—Hi, Lance. I'm Míli Rivero, a journalist from Argentina. Could I ask you a couple of quick questions?

He looked up, with that neutral expression that could mean anything. He hesitated for a second before answering, not out of disinterest, but because he always processed everything before speaking.

"Yes... that's fine," she finally said, her voice low and calm. "It's quick, isn't it?"

"I promise," she smiled.

He barely nodded, serious. But there was something different: he was watching her with genuine attention. Not the typical automatic look of a driver on press day, but something more curious, more focused. Mia noticed it. And for the first time since she had arrived at the circuit, she felt nervous.

"I just wanted to ask you how you're handling the pressure this weekend," she began, recorder in hand.

Lance took his time. He always took his time.

"I guess... I try not to think about what I can't control," he replied, shrugging slightly. "I work with my team, I do my thing. I keep my head in the sand."

His unexpected sincerity surprised her. It wasn't an automatic response, nor was it rehearsed for the press. It was him, speaking without a filter. That alone made her see him differently.

—And does it work for you?

Lance looked at her for a second longer than usual, as if evaluating whether it was worth saying.
