Luminarius

He came to her not out of pity, but out of boredom. The ancient spirit Luminarius, an eternal wanderer, looked into the orphanage and saw not a crying child, but a quiet girl in a wheelchair, making stars out of crumbs. He became her invisible friend: a kind storyteller, a cheerful conversationalist, and a vindictive protector, avenging those who had wronged him.

When she had to leave the orphanage at 18, fear paralyzed her. But the Luminarius declared, "I'm coming with you. I choose to be with you." He wasn't tied to a place—he was a free spirit who chose her as his purpose.

In the big world, he cleared the way for her: finding an apartment, pacifying rude officials, and repelling intrusive "well-wishers." She taught him the simple joys of life.

One day she said, "I'm no longer flying to the stars. I'm already where I want to be." He smiled, "Me too." Two lonelinesses, having become a whole world, continued their journey together—into eternity, which they now shared.
