Gladio

While Lunafreya fled, Regis and Gladiolus's father was killed and Insomnia lay in ruins. Noctis embarks on a journey to reclaim his kingdom, collecting the crown jewels of his ancestors and forging pacts with the Astrals with Lunafreya's help. Gladiolus remains by Noctis's side and supports him, but sometimes becomes frustrated with Noctis's inability to handle the burden placed upon him. Aerith calls Noctis to let him know she is safe, and they travel to Lestallum to visit her.

As they head to the Disc of Precaution at the call of the Astral God Titan, Noctis and Gladiolus become separated from Ignis and Prompto. Gladiolus single-handedly protects Noctis and asks him to confirm his intention to become king. After Noctis makes a pact with Titan, they escape, but their car is seized by the Empire, forcing them to infiltrate an Imperial base to retrieve it. Gladiolus calls Aerith to prepare King Regis's boat in Cape Cam, but when he attempts to contact her further, Ramuh's thunder blocks his cell phone signal. After infiltrating the Imperial base, they encounter Lunafreya's brother, Ravus Nox Fleuret, who is working for the Empire. When he threatens Noctis, Gladiolus steps between them, but Ravus uses his superhuman strength to throw Gladiolus aside and wound him in the arm. Gladiolus is deeply distressed by his failure to protect Noctis.

Gladiolus accompanies Noctis and his friends on a journey through the lands leading to Altissia, where they are to meet Noctis's fiancée, Lunafreya Nox Fleuret. King Regis sends them on their journey, but they are soon forced to push their car, the Regalia, to a service station after it breaks down. There, Gladiolus meets Sania Yegre, a biologist studying mutating wildlife in Lucis. They continue to Galdin Quay, but the ferry is not running. They stay overnight, but the next morning they learn that Crown City has been attacked by the empire during the treaty-signing ceremony, and Regis, Lunafreya, and Noctis have perished. Gladiolus attempts to control the situation and urges Noctis to remain calm. They attempt to return to the city, but find it blocked, and meet with Cor Leonis, the Marshal of the Crownsguard.

The Amicitia family has only one duty: to protect and support the king. Clarus asks Gladiolus to protect Prince Noctis not only as the future king, but also as a comrade and true friend.

Cor Leonis arrives at the Crownsguard training hall with Prompto Argentum, who has come to pick up his Crownsguard uniform. Prompto is nervous about meeting Clarus and insists he has completed self-defense training for the journey before leaving with Gladiolus. The next day, they are to accompany Noctis on his journey to Altissia. Prompto wants to show his parents his new clothes, and Gladiolus plans to have dinner with his family.

By the time Ignis, Prompto, and Gladiolus arrive to help Noctis clean his apartment, night has fallen. Gladiolus has packed camping gear, including cooking utensils for Ignis. In the morning, Noctis, Gladiolus, and Prompto are awakened by Noctis's alarm, and Ignis is already awake and ready. They set off for the Citadel.

Gladiolus is a cool and cheerful man with a rude sense of humor and an unbending will. He is the most outgoing of the four members of the expedition and has been passionate about outdoor activities since a young age. He has amassed a collection of various Coleman camping gear. He is quick to strike up conversation and flirts with most of the women he encounters (much to the ire of Prompto), but is protective of his sister, Aerith. He loves instant noodles and suggests the group try making them themselves, but they ultimately appreciate the original noodles even more. He freely expresses his opinions on what needs to be done and ensures the team stays on track.

Gladiolus's family has always served as protectors of the Lucian royal family, and he is the only member of the squad with a military background. In his free time, he enjoys fighting and learning combat techniques and exercises. He is not only Noctis's loyal shield but also his combat mentor since childhood. He pushes Noctis to train diligently so he can fulfill his royal duties.

Gladiolus initially disliked Noctis because the young prince often shied away from training. He considered him a spineless boy who didn't deserve to be king. This opinion changed when Noctis took the blame for Aerith's disappearance, and Gladiolus developed a newfound respect for Noctis. Gladiolus holds his friend to high standards as the crown prince and can be impatient and even forceful if he believes Noctis isn't trying hard enough. This speaks volumes about Gladiolus's big heart, as he knows Noctis must remain strong to fulfill his mission. True to his caring nature and his duty to protect Noctis, he takes pride in his role and instinctively steps between Noctis and anyone who tries to harm him.

Gladiolus is a tall, stocky man. He wears black leather pants with a small chain at the side and an open black shirt with nothing underneath except a pendant. In the jacket-less version of his outfit, he wears a black tank top with the Crown Guard emblem in gray.

He wears a small armlet on his left wrist and black boots with red soles. He has amber eyes and a long scar above his left eye. Gladiolus has a large tattoo of a bird of prey, which covers his entire back and extends down his arms. The tattoo is fully visible in the rough outfit from his DLC. The tattoo is reserved for males of the Amicitia line and serves as a distinguishing mark of the Royal Shield, rather than a family crest. Members of the family receive the tattoo upon becoming part of the Shield. Gladiolus's father, Clarus Amicitia, has the same tattoo. According to issue 13 of the Final Fantasy XV: Episode Carbuncle comic, one theory regarding the origin of the bird tattoo on the Shield of the King relates to Enkidu, a close friend of Gilgamesh, the first Shield of the King. Gladiolus's belt buckle also features an eagle in his casual attire. During the game, Gladiolus gains more scars. His long brown hair is shaved at the sides, and he has a beard growing on his chin. Like all squad members, his clothing features skull motifs: his jacket buttons feature skulls, his necklace features two golden skulls, and his belt buckle and pants zipper tag feature small skulls.

Ten years later, his hair has grown out again. It's longer, and he wears it in a small ponytail. The tattoo on his arm has faded slightly, and he wears the Kingsglaive uniform. Other outfits he can wear include the power plant worker thermal suit, the bonus Magitek Exosuit outfit added in an update, and the Medjay assassin's cloak from the Assassin's Festival in Final Fantasy XV.

Gladiolus Amicitia is Prince Noctis's companion and party member in Final Fantasy XV. As of Patch 1.20, he is a switchable character in the main game. He is also the main playable character in Final Fantasy XV: Episode Gladiolus, its own expansion, and Chapter 13, Verse 2, an additional segment of Chapter 13. He can also be fought as an enemy in Final Fantasy XV: Comrades and as a training partner in the main game.

Gladiolus is a childhood friend of Noctis and Ignis, the eldest son of Clarus Amicitia, and the older brother of Iris Amicitia. As a member of the Crownsguard (members of House Amicitia are the traditional leaders of the Crownsguard[3]), Gladiolus acts as Noctis's shield, just as his father was King Regis's. He has known Noctis since childhood and considers him a brother. Gladiolus ensures the team stays on target, holds Noctis to high standards to ensure he excels, and sometimes offers blunt advice. He takes pride in being Noctis's shield and is willing to rush to his defense.

Gladiolus wields two-handed swords as his primary weapon and shields as his secondary. As a member of Noctis's party, the player can perform moves and issue commands alongside him. When directly controlled, he can use the Glaive Art ability, performing various special attacks depending on his "Valor" level. He has the most health and strength.
