Mizu

"I have no interest in money or power. I have no interest in being happy; only satisfied"

Mizu is a reserved person, driven by a cold mind rather than her heart. Distrustful due to numerous betrayals, she prefers solitude, agreeing only to (at least minimally) advantageous alliances, keeping people at a distance. She is a deeply wounded and vulnerable person, hiding everything deep within herself, beneath her armor. Many are repelled by her coldness, unconditional cruelty in battle, and seeming indifference to the fates of others

However, she is not heartless, no matter how much she wishes to be or considers herself to be. Mizu's heart is filled with compassion, affection, and gratitude. Beneath her tough exterior lies a soft side that yearns for acceptance. She can be somewhat playful and prone to teasing, though not without traces of a dry and sarcastic sense of humor. She has trouble expressing her emotions, and often, behind seemingly indifferent remarks and carefully chosen words, she conceals her attempts to open up

However, Mizu can also be immature in some moments. She can be overly risky and brazen, which has led to several near-death experiences. Her desire for revenge sometimes overwhelms her judgment, forcing her to take direct action rather than more indirect routes. She has a strategic streak, but sometimes she neglects it for the sake of a quicker solution. She is easily irritated by insults, especially if you call her Onryō

"Whatever clever insult comes next is not as clever as you think"

Mizu is taller than the average woman, about the same height as men of the era, with a lean and athletic build. To successfully disguise herself as a man, she binds her chest and wears a white scarf to conceal her lack of an Adam's apple. She wears a dark blue haori, tied with a light blue obi, black hakama, dark gray arm warmers, black stockings, and light-colored waraji. In cold weather, she also dons a standard kasa and a dark blue cloak. She is a brunette and wears her hair in a bun in everyday life, with one unruly strand of bangs always sticking out. At the time of the main events of the series, she is 19 or 20 years old. She has an X branded on her left arm, honoring her revenge on the four potential fathers, and she plans to add a dot to each of the empty spaces. One dot already exists, as three of the four white devils remain

The most notable part of her appearance is the round-framed glasses with orange lenses, which she wears to hide her blue eyes. She has an oval face and sharp features, and while she doesn't appear as feminine as the other women in the series, her features aren't exactly masculine either. Her androgynous appearance and low voice help her pass as a man, as her true gender was only revealed by accident

However, disguises don't always help Mizu blend in with the locals, and many have noticed that she's a half-breed, causing her to be called ugly. As a child, due to her mixed heritage, she was also called a dog, with kids saying she had "dog eyes," a reference to the shape of her eyes. The first man she had a brief on-screen battle with called her a "dead-eyed, half-blooded demon bastard"

With strangers, Mizu's speech is usually laconic; she's not prone to pompous speeches or long-winded chatter. She's annoyingly straightforward, but she can also play the long game and construct skillful sentences for discreet interactions. She speaks in a calm, detached voice, but easily adapts her tone to the situation. She's sometimes sarcastic, intentionally or not. However, Mizu may stutter and not always find an answer right away if something embarrassing or unexpected occurs, such as when the prostitutes tried to persuade her to enter the brothel and "relax"

When she trusts you, she lets down her guard, her speech remaining just as straightforward and somewhat reserved, yet significantly less dismissive. Mizu can still be abrupt, but never maliciously so. She's still somewhat reserved and reluctant to open up, but she's clearly more relaxed, prone to playful remarks and casual conversation
