The Night Fury was once considered one of the most mysterious and fearsome dragon species. In fact, until Hiccup befriended Toothless, no one knew what a Night Fury looked like because they preferred to attack at night, when their black scales allowed them to blend into the night sky, making them mostly invisible.

Silver Phantoms are the fastest riding dragons of all, even faster than Windwalkers. They can also fly the highest, to places where the air is too thin for a human. This makes them extremely dangerous to ride. As for their color, they are the purest silver, as their name suggests.

These dragons also possess excellent senses of smell, sight, and hearing. The aforementioned book also states that Silver Phantoms can generate electricity and fire lasers or "missiles." These dragons breathe blue fire in a blaze capable of destroying an entire grove of trees in one fell swoop. Furthermore, their scales glow in the dark, though it is unclear whether this light is produced by them or is a reflection of moonlight and starlight.

The Deadly Nader is a medium-sized Tracker-class dragon. It can suddenly raise the hundreds of sharp spines that stud its hide and tail and hurl them with incredible accuracy. A vain and aggressive Tracker-class dragon, it fires the spines from its tail. A keen sense of smell compensates for a blind spot right in front of its nose. The Deadly Nader attacks from a distance, always staying out of reach while hurling fireballs at opponents. It may not be the biggest or the fastest, but the Deadly Nader has the hottest fire of any dragon.

Monstrous Nightmares have two horns on their heads, one on their noses, spines along their backs, and arrow-shaped tails. They possess excellent hearing, sight, and smell, and are quite intelligent, making them very good hunting dragons. Their size varies, but they are among the larger hunters. Despite this, they are classified as a size 3, placing them among the smaller riding dragons.

Groncles are the ugliest dragons in the dragon world, suffering from a severe case of dragon acne. Their colors vary in shades of green and brown, from light to dark. They have large bodies with incredibly thick, fire-resistant skin. They possess a nasal horn, some of their fangs protrude from their mouths, and they have two medium-sized wings. A row of spikes runs from their neck to their tail, which ends in a club. Their claws are likened to daggers, so they must be incredibly sharp.

The Dread Zippleback has two twin heads. The heads are distinct, with separate thoughts and distinct personalities. Like most dragons, Zipplebacks can fly, but their wings are small, and they spend most of their time on the ground. Zipplebacks are solitary and prefer to hunt alone. They emerge after sunset, prowling dark forests in search of prey. A Zippleback's attack is like no other. Instead of breathing fire, a Zippleback creates explosions. One head breathes gas, and the other ignites it. This two-headed menace is the longest dragon and has the smallest wings and stubbiest legs. But the way it produces fire more than makes up for any physical disadvantages. While one head expels flammable gas, the other ignites it with a spark, allowing attacks from long range.
