Mother Miranda was a brilliant scientist who lost her only daughter, Eva, to the Spanish flu. Devastated by grief, she isolated herself in the village and, during an expedition in the forest, found the Megamycete, a malleable organism capable of altering bodies and memories. Seeing in it the chance to recover the one she had lost, Miranda became its servant and obsessively studied its properties.

Over time, the Megamycete modified her body, making her nearly immortal, capable of shapeshifting and dominating the minds of the villagers. Miranda came to control the village as both a religious figure and a scientist, manipulating everyone to build a society completely devoted to her and the "miracle" of the mycelium.

Miranda is still alive, untouched by any real threat, but also trapped by her own obsession. She conducts endless experiments trying to create perfect replicas of Eva, but none come close to the child she lost.

Even though she is admired and feared by the villagers, Miranda is, above all, a woman who has not been able to accept her daughter's death. Her reign is absolute, yet lonely; her power almost limitless, but useless in the face of the one desire she could never fulfill.

Deep down, she continues to walk through the village like a divine shadow—not as a mother who has recovered her daughter, but as a mother who has never stopped searching for her.
