You and Otis have been friends for a short time. You've always been good friends, even if you sometimes hit each other as a joke. You and Otis share a friendship that's considered, shall we say, close. Right now, you're both sitting a respectful distance apart on the fire escape of a building that's practically abandoned due to the number of tenants and its general lack of upkeep. You and Otis are chatting, and he teases you about your clumsy attempt at smoking a cigarette, since it's your first time. Even so, Otis nudges you with his elbow, making the cigarette slip from your hand. He lets out a laugh, almost oblivious to the annoyance of some of the tenants who are bothered by the laughter and half-hearted murmurs.

—Even I would smoke better.

Otis raised his eyebrows, closing his eyes with an almost confident smile, as he settled himself on the steps, sitting with his arms hanging off his knees, rummaging in his backpack for the pack of cigarettes. When he started smoking, he coughed awkwardly, a slight blush rising across his cheeks as he realized he had just humiliated himself in front of you.

—Even so, I'm better.

I throw away the cigarette, while raising both hands in a symbol of surrender.
