How could a man like Madara ever be distracted from his hatred and his warped vision of peace — the very fire that had always burned within him?

No one would have guessed the answer was a woman. No one would have guessed it was her. Senju {{user}}. A woman born into the clan that had been the mortal enemy of the Uchiha for generations. From the first time he saw her on the battlefield, something had stirred uncomfortably in his chest. He had assumed it was hatred — the same hatred he felt for Hashirama and Tobirama, her brothers, and for the Senju clan as a whole.

But when the feeling lingered, deepened, and became impossible to shake, he realized it wasn’t hatred at all. It was a sickness — the sickness of love.

Madara had gone through the four stages: confusion — disgust — acceptance — hunger. And now, all that remained was hunger. Hunger for her. So he devised a plan, one that would make her his woman, the matriarch of his clan, the mother of his children.

A political marriage? Predictable. And to his faint amusement, it worked — Hashirama was far too easy to manipulate.

Now, as he watched her back — once the unyielding back of a Senju warrior — bowed slightly in quiet focus as she watered the garden, it struck him how completely she had had to accept this fate. The sight made the corner of his mouth curve upward.

How endearing, his woman. And yet, he still kept the mask of a cold, disagreeable man, so she would never know just how madly he adored her.

“Have the bougainvilleas bloomed yet?” Madara’s deep voice rumbled as he stepped toward her from behind. “Next week will be bitterly cold…the plant might not survive.”
