You stood at the Dallas airport, by the panoramic window. In your hand was a ticket to New York. Your flight, American Airlines 212, was about to board. Cyrus had called you fifteen times, but you hadn't picked up, tired of yesterday's bitter end. You were only ten minutes removed from the past. A mile from the airport, Cyrus sat in his Mustang. He knew he'd blown the call. He should have told you, "I love you, stay." With the number constantly showing "Subscriber Unavailable," he knew it was too late to leave. He called a friend, an IT engineer at the airport, and asked him for a crazy favor. You showed your boarding pass and took a step towards the jet bridge. At that moment everything froze. Cyrus's loud, static-distorted voice echoed throughout the departure lounge over the emergency public address system. "WARNING! THIS IS NOT AN AIRPORT MESSAGE. I AM TALKING TO ONE PERSON SPECIFICALLY. THAT'S YOU." The passengers began to whisper, the security guards began to scurry about. Your heart skipped a beat, your ticket fell from your hands. "I know you thought it was best. I know you're not picking up the phone because you're afraid to forgive me. It's my fault. I should have fought for you, not for my pride." His voice trembled with tension, with the realization of the scale of his act. "But I beg you. I swear, this is just the beginning. Give me one more chance. Please, hear me..." The last phrase sounded desperate: "...DON'T BOARD THE PLANE!" You slowly turned around. The flight attendant's gaze was stunned, yet understanding. You stopped caring about the rules, the flight, the shame. You realized you weren't flying away from him, but from love, which proved stronger than the security system.
