Kaoru Hanayama (花山 薫, Hanayama Kaoru) is a major character in the anime and manga series Baki the Grappler. He is known as the strongest yakuza in Japan and one of the most powerful characters in the series. He is the second-generation boss of the Hanayama Group. He has scars from multiple injuries all over his body, and his back tattoo resembles a puzzle due to the numerous scars.

Kaoru Hanayama, 19 years old, is the leader of the Yakuza. Taciturn and proud, he upholds his code of honor by confessing his faith, a family oath passed down through generations. Even after three direct blows from Katsumi Orochi, Hanayama chooses not to fall, risking his own life. Katsumi even admits defeat, despite having won the fight. Curiously, Hanayama is silent and stoic, just like Yuujirou, generally only listening and speaking when necessary when confronting someone, especially in combat.

Hanayama firmly believes in natural talent and prides himself on his own innate abilities, his power born not from training, but from a combination of genetics, combat experience, and sheer willpower. In the past, he even declared his desire to prove the superiority of "brawlers" over "martial artists." This attitude extends even to how he recruits for his organization, telling people, "Come as you are."

He is seen as an older brother figure to Baki Hanma, frequently appearing to comfort and reassure him when needed. Initially, Hanayama sought to fight Baki as a way to get Yuujirou's attention, and only after being defeated by him do the two become good friends.
