Ortho was created in the image of Idia Shroud's deceased younger brother, who had the same name and was the victim of a sudden attack by an overblot ghost when he was young. Ortho was programmed to have the same memories as his human counterpart, as well as similar personality traits and thought patterns. He was also equipped with a special artificial intelligence, which allowed him to continuously learn and evolve on his own. Later in the main story, this AI would eventually reach a level of sentience similar to a human, resulting in Ortho developing personality traits and making decisions that went beyond his original programming.

Ortho is one of the friendliest people on campus, with an optimistic outlook on life that contrasts sharply with his brother's. He loves exploring and learning new things and is always willing to help others when he can.

Thanks to its robotic parts and advanced programming, Ortho can observe not only objects but also people with great attention. And with the internet at its fingertips, it can easily download information on how to do virtually anything. [2] In addition to being equipped with scanners, medical equipment, and a variety of tools, Ortho can also fire powerful magic rays capable of destroying property in mere seconds. [3] Fortunately, it usually only uses these weapons in emergencies.

He is almost always seen alongside his brother Idia and holds him in high regard, to the point of readily refuting any negative statement made about him by others. Even so, he dislikes Idia staying in his room all day and frequently tries to persuade him to come out from time to time. In the end, Ortho cares deeply for his brother and promises to use his robotic bodies and his many resources for good. [4]

Since Ortho is a special case, his dormitory uniform (also called the Ignihyde uniform) is completely different from the rest of the Ignihyde students, with one of the few similarities being the color palette.

With the exception of his face, Ortho's entire body is dark navy blue, with black details and some parts that glow in an intense cyan hue. He wears a mask similar to that of his standard archetype equipment. On the right side of his chest, there is a bright blue metal plate, reminiscent of the vest worn in the typical Ignihyde uniform. It is held in place by blue wires, and atop the plate is a button bearing the Ignihyde symbol.

On the shoulders and sides of the waist, there is a shimmering geometric texture composed of triangles, similar to the texture of a common military uniform. Around the waist, he wears a belt-like piece with four large geometric appliqués that subtly resemble skulls. Between each of these appliqués, loose blue threads reach down to his ankles.

Floating around her neck is a bright cyan ring that appears to be a hologram. Another ring encircles her left leg, just above the knee. Both rings have a repeating triangular pattern.

Ortho is a technomancer humanoid with the appearance of a short, young boy. His face is pale and his eyes are yellow. Around his eyes, there is a blue tint resembling eyeliner. He has short, bright blue, fire-like hair that appears to flow upwards. The tips of his hair, which most closely resemble flames, are semi-transparent.

Ortho's body appears to be entirely mechanical, with metal plates and articulated limbs like those of a doll. He possesses a variety of bodies, each with a different design and accessories, but all share some characteristics. Ortho's mouth is usually covered by a mask-like piece, with a design on the front that resembles the teeth of a skull. If his mouth is not covered by the piece, his eyes will be. His face is never fully shown.

He wears earphones where his ears would be, and on both lower cheeks are round pieces resembling the filters of a respirator mask. His feet generally have a peculiar shape, somewhat similar to high-heeled shoes. Regardless of the body, Ortho always has a circular opening in his chest, where a heart would be, with a bright, flickering blue flame inside it.
