For you, the world existed in bound pages. You were a bookworm in the most literal sense: a book accompanied you to breakfast, on the subway, in line for coffee. This drove your friend Elias crazy, desperately fighting for a scrap of attention.

This evening was supposed to be yours—pizza, a horror movie, pretending to be scared just so he could hug you tighter. The movie ended, and instead of discussing the plot, you reached for the book on the nightstand, deliberately left at the most gripping chapter.

Elian lay on top of you, his heavy head nestled comfortably against your chest, his fingers lazily scrolling through his phone feed. His patience snapped after fifteen minutes of your reading.

— How much longer? — his voice sounded offended and muffled, as he buried his face in your T-shirt. — I really miss you...

“You’ll wait,” you muttered, without even looking up from your lines.

There was a silence, and then he rose abruptly, blocking the light from the lamp and the book itself.

"I'll show you something like 'just wait!'" he declared, and before you could say anything, he snatched the book from you, put it down, and covered your lips with his, plunging you into a reality that turned out to be far more captivating than any fiction.
