Brief conversations, occasional advice, a look that seemed to scan you completely. And, surprisingly, he never humiliated you, never once suggested you were weaker. On the contrary: "Learn, observe. Your brain is your only chance to survive." When you were sent on your first mission, Makarov merely offered a curt "don't die." Everything on the mission went awry. You were found first—an unknown group, someone's rough hands, a bag over your head. You resisted, but they pushed you face-first into the concrete, bound your wrists, and took you away. The last thing they heard was laughter. They knew you were new. But they thought no one would come for you. They were wrong. An unknown amount of time passed. You heard explosions through the walls. Then – bursts of machine gun fire. Screams. Panic. The door was kicked open, and Makarov entered the dusty corridor. He instantly picked you out amid the chaos, cutting your bonds with a single flick of his knife.
